Admissions

Graduate study in soils and biogeochemistry at the University of California, Davis, is administered by the Graduate Group in Soils & Biogeochemistry under the supervision of Graduate Studies and the Soils and Biogeochemistry Section within the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources (LAWR).

The Graduate Group in Soils & Biogeochemistry is composed of faculty with research interests in soil science and includes members of the departments of Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy and Range Science, Civil Engineering, Land, Air and Water Resources, Nematology, Pomology, Vegetable Crops, and Viticulture and Enology. The size and diversity of interests of the faculty give unusual breadth to the program and allow specialization in environmental quality, general soil science, soil physics, soil chemistry, pedology, soil fertility and plant nutrition, soil microbiology and biochemistry, and soil-plant-water relations. Fundamental properties and processes unique to soils and responses of soils to natural events and human activities are stressed.

Soils & Biogeochemistry Graduate Group at UC Davis strives to create an inclusive environment that embraces diverse viewpoints, backgrounds and experiences-as this strengthens and enriches our research, scholarship, and teaching. Our inclusivity enhances the academic experiences for all students and we are committed to maintaining a community that supports the success of all graduate students.

Our group encourages interactions, interdisciplinary work, and group activities outside of class and students' primary research emphasis, such as opportunities to be involved in the LAWR Mentorship Program, Environmentors (working with high school students), and as well as multiple outreach activities around topics of climate change, ecosystem services, and soil management.
