Study earth's biogeochemical cycles from a global ecosystem perspective; Mix large scale observations of natural isotope composition of ecosystems, quantitative and simulation modeling, and experimental manipulations of intact plant communities; Advance understanding of ecosystems at basic, theoretical levels and from more applied perspectives, particular in relation to global environmental change.
