Veronica's research aims to deepen our understanding of the processes that regulate fluid flow and reactive transport of dissolved/suspended chemicals in natural porous media like soils and rocks. To this end, my group uses various experimental and modeling tools to identify and quantify the links between the physico-chemical and biological interactions between the flowing fluid, the chemicals carried by the fluid, and the intricate pore space in which the fluid moves. Applications of our research include studies on the impacts of groundwater contaminant dispersal, bioremediation of contaminated soils, water quality aspects of Managed Aquifer Recharge, microbial production of greenhouse gases, and disposal of hydraulic fracturing wastewater.
